Therapy provides a place in which to safely explore thoughts and feelings free from the fear of judgement.
My aim, as a therapist, is to empower my clients to live their lives as they wish, free from mental tension.
I believe that the emotionally wounded deserve acceptance and compassion. I recognise that sometimes there are dark days.
I integrate Person-Centred and Psychodynamic theories into my counselling.
A Person-Centred approach takes that given the necessary therapeutic conditions, there is a natural tendency towards healing and growth within everyone. This is the basis of my therapeutic relationship with my clients.
Psychodynamic work goes deeper, sometimes exploring past events. These events may be causing unconscious drives leading to unhelpful patterns of behaviour or defences.
By working to safely bring the unconscious to the conscious and increasing self-awareness these patterns may be broken.
This is often relevant to the processing of traumatic events, allowing for them to become integrated memories and leading to relief from the symptoms of trauma.
I have a particular interest and experience in (but not limited to) the following:
Anxiety
Depression
Trauma
PTSD
Sexual abuse
Domestic violence
Dissociation
